Summer at Daz & Company: Growth Doesn’t Take a Vacation

Summer has a reputation for slowing things down. Offices empty out, calendars open up, and a lot of teams shift into cruise control until September.

That is not how our summers go.

At Daz & Company, summer is one of the busiest and most rewarding stretches of the year. It is when conferences hit, when new team members find their footing, and when the habits people build in July show up in their results by October. The energy is different in the summer, and we lean into it rather than waiting it out.

Here is what that actually looks like.

Development doesn’t pause for the season

Our approach to professional development is built on repetition and coaching, not on a once-a-year training week. Team members work through goal setting in the morning, spend the day in customer-facing roles, and come back to a debrief where they talk through what worked and what did not.

That rhythm does not change because it is August. If anything, summer is when it matters most. New team members who join in the spring are usually hitting the point where the fundamentals start to click, and consistent coaching through the summer is what turns a promising start into real skill.

The people who treat summer as a development season tend to be the ones with the most to show for it later.

Conference season brings the team together

Summer and early fall are when our industry’s biggest events land on the calendar. Our team travels for the annual National Conference, regional conferences, and leadership-focused events like Keys to Success and Top Gun.

These trips are not a break from the work. They are where our team sees what is possible at a bigger scale, learns directly from leaders across the country, and comes home with ideas we actually put into practice. There is also something about spending a few days with your team outside the office that changes how you work together when you get back.

Travel is one of the parts of this business our team looks forward to most, and summer is when a lot of it happens.

Culture shows up in the small stuff

Ask our team what they like about working here and most of them will not lead with the training program. They will talk about the people.

Summer at Daz & Company includes team outings, cookouts, Orioles games, rooftop evenings, and a lot of celebrating whatever there is to celebrate that week. Some of it is planned. Most of it is not. A team that genuinely enjoys each other’s company works harder for each other, and that is not something you can build with a policy.

Our culture is grounded in three things we come back to constantly: resilience, commitment, and grit. Those words sound big, but in practice they look small and repeatable. Showing up on the hot days. Following through on what you said you would do. Asking for feedback before someone has to give it to you.

Momentum compounds

The case for working through the summer is simple. Skills build on each other. Confidence builds on reps. Someone who spends June, July, and August in front of customers, getting coached, adjusting, and trying again is going to be in a completely different place by the fall than someone who coasted.

We talk a lot about the idea that luck is where preparation and opportunity meet. Summer is preparation season. When opportunities open up later in the year, whether that is added responsibility, a leadership track, or a new market, they tend to go to the people who were ready for them.

Building something worth staying for

Daz & Company was named one of The Baltimore Sun’s Top Workplaces in 2025, and that recognition came from our own team’s feedback. That means a lot to us, because culture is one of those things you cannot fake for a survey. People either want to be here or they do not.

Under the leadership of our president, Brittany Doria, we have built a company around a simple belief: people are the best product a company can have. Every summer team meeting, every coaching conversation, and every conference trip comes back to developing the people on our team into the leaders they want to become.

So no, growth does not take a vacation around here. But we do take plenty of team photos while we are at it.
